Doctoral Extern

Who I Am:

I am a third-year student at Roosevelt University pursuing my PsyD in Clinical Psychology. I graduated from Dominican University (‘21) with my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Black World Studies. I have also recently received my Masters of Arts from Roosevelt University in Clinical Psychology. I was born and raised in the Quad Cities in Iowa, and have lived in the Chicagoland area since 2018. I love learning and knew from a young age that I wanted to be involved in the “helping field” in some capacity. Being a graduate student has given me many opportunities to advance my skills and I look forward to many more years of learning and growing in this field.

Who I Work With:

I enjoy working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. As a doctoral student, I have numerous opportunities to work with diverse populations in a wide range of settings. I believe each client and families needs something different and I always strive to meet the client where they are at to tailor individual sessions, specific coping skills, and treatment goals.

I especially enjoy working with clients who seek treatment for issues surrounding trauma, understanding their unique identities (ethnic/race/gender/sexuality), managing relationships and family dynamics, grief or loss, and other difficult life transitions and challenges. I believe we each have unique stories and I strive to create a safe therapeutic space for the client to share their story.

My Interests:

I have always had a strong passion for social justice and equitable access to mental health services. I believe that all people–despite race, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, sexuality, etc.–should have access to quality mental health care and ability to take steps to improve their mental & emotional well-being.

As a doctorate student, I have the opportunity to engage in research and work on my dissertation studies. I have a strong passion for research, especially surrounding marginalized populations and mental health. I have had the pleasure of working on numerous research teams with topics including impacts of microaggressions on college students, what impacts retention rates for undergraduate students, and understanding the importance of ethnic identity.

My Philosophy and Approach to Treatment:

Taking the step to any mental health services–therapy or testing–can be scary. I strive to create a safe space for all clients to feel comfortable sharing their unique truth and experiences with me. I believe in the importance of a positive client-clinician relationship in order for the client to grow in the therapeutic space.

As a doctoral student, I am dedicated to being a lifelong learner and leaning on the expertise of my supervisors, professors, and mentors to help guide me through this process.
